DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Senior Production Manager of the Campus Performances & Events Office, the Front of House Manager uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional, to provide comprehensive coordination and management oversight of events.
With a capacity of 2,650, the Epstein Family Amphitheater is designed to provide diverse programming and to create engagement opportunities for UC San Diego students and the San Diego community at large. The open-air amphitheater will showcase performing arts, featuring local and international talent, as well as student, campus, and community events. When not actively programmed, the space will serve as an informal gathering place and open park.
The Front of House Manager provides comprehensive event planning, coordination, and management support for programs on the UC San Diego campus. This role will help manage reservations, rentals, and contracting related to the amphitheater to ensure a robust calendar of events in benefit of the campus, its students, and the surrounding community.
The Front of House Manager will support student organizations, campus departments, and clients in producing events at the EFA. Responsibilities include identifying and coordinating of event logistics ranging from security, parking, box office, event portering services, usher calls, set up, and tear down of events. The Front of House Manager will be involved in the managing of concession vendors, marketing efforts, and supporting front of house events
QUALIFICATIONS
Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and public relations, including event design, organization and production.
Demonstrated knowledge of theatrical staging, lighting, rigging, audio, and scenery equipment and their uses.
Knowledge of crowd management, crowd safety protocols, security and emergency procedures related to small, medium and large-scale gatherings. *Knowledge of campus officials and their roles in conjunction with special events (Fire Marshal, Police Chief, Special Events Parking, etc.)
Thorough knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, programs, policies, achievements and infrastructure. Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to the use of University facilities, event management and presentation.
Knowledge of equipment purchase, rental, maintenance, and storage with regard to University policy.
Strong knowledge of computers including standard software, (Microsoft Office, Internet Browsers, Email, etc..) as well as specialized software programs (CAD. Theatrical Lighting, Audio Modeling, Database, etc.)
Knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer recruitment, supervision, motivation and evaluation.
Knowledge, skill and ability in recruiting, training, motivating, and supervising student employees. Knowledge of student development and ability to apply this knowledge when working with student employees and student leaders. Ability to develop procedures, checklists, and guidelines to structure the work of student employees
Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients to produce high quality events that meet client needs and appropriately represent the campus for fundraising events. Skills to provide excellent donor stewardship.
Ability to effectively work with invited guests, donors, government officials and university VIPs.
Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints.
Knowledge and skill to set and monitor work standards and protocols. *Excellent organizational abilities appropriate to effective calendar management and crew scheduling
Highly developed interpersonal communication skills including political acumen and social perceptiveness. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities.
Highly developed judgment, decision-making and problem recognition / avoidance / resolution skills, including skill in determining those issues / problems that need to be brought to management's attention.
Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadlines.
Experience maintaining a high standard of productivity within a broad scope of responsibility despite frequent interruptions. Ability to complete large volume of diverse tasks efficiently, meeting established deadlines.
Ability to give clear directives and use independent, rational judgment to make optimal decisions.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet event needs. This position works late nights and on weekends regularly as required.
The job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
