DESCRIPTION

The school social worker will be responsible for assessing home, school, personal and community factors that may affect a student's learning, school adjustment, and general well being. S/he consults with teachers, administrators, other faculty/staff, and parents regarding effective strategies for dealing with problems related to social, emotional, and academic needs of The Preuss School UCSD middle and high school student population.

The school social worker identifies and provides interventions for students and families that will assist in creating positive learning environments for students. In addition, the school social worker helps to develop resiliency strategies, programs, and services that build self-esteem, nurture positive development, and help to bond students to the school community.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess either License in Marriage & Family Therapy or Masters Degree in Social Work; knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position

  • Ability to prepare social and family histories and cooperate on the formulation of committee reports; social work case reporting and writing skills; ability to counsel students, parents, staff and community members individually and in groups.

  • Knowledge of community resources; ability to demonstrate effective liaison relationships with parents, schools, and community agencies; ability to coordinate activities from many sources for the benefit of an individual student, and to make arrangements for groups of students.

  • Ability to counsel students, parents, staff and community members individually and in groups; skills in conducting effective meetings and conferences (including the resolution of disagreements); skill in socio-environmental analysis and diagnosis on problem students

  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, including preparation of formal statistical reports. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with ethnically and culturally diverse populations and co-workers, exercising tact, flexibility and diplomacy.

  • Strong crisis intervention skills. Demonstrated ability to deliver care in an ethical, non-judgmental, and non-discriminatory manner.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must possess either Masters Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy or Masters Degree in Social Work, or hold an MFT, LPCC, or LCSW license.

  • Must pass background check and TB screening.

  • Position requires Child Abuse & Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) Compliance
