DESCRIPTION

Our program strives to inspire and enable the effective discovery, use, creation, and exchange of knowledge to help Library users achieve their academic goals. Through our high-impact, high-use services, our staff are committed to innovative thinking, continuous improvement, a focus on the user experience, operational efficiency, and high standards for customer service. We offer service delivery that is cohesive, holistic, and intuitive for users. Service offerings include learning spaces and furnishings, collection access (excluding Special Collections & Archives), point-of-contact informational assistance to users, lending, course reserves, technology and equipment, collection maintenance, user assessment, and student-focused engagement. In partnership with TDX and other programs with a role in defining and assessing the digital user experience, SLA provides leadership in exploring, shaping, and operating technology platforms central to the use of our services and offerings.

The Engagement Specialist interacts directly and frequently with library users in a variety of settings and circumstances. Engagement activities are used to gather feedback and qualitative/quantitative insight to better understand the user experience to support program and library decision-making. The activities are also intended to promote program services and offerings. Under general supervision, the Engagement Specialist coordinates multiple program events and services, including the library-wide Public Cleaning Supplies Service, graduate student lockers, and Library Consultation Spaces. Incumbent supports library tours and displays. The engagement specialist brainstorms new ways to engage library users and assesses the responsibilities within the position purview and the results of user feedback initiatives.The engagement specialist manages a selection of program equipment, oversees outreach materials and publications, and leads the program's social media and publicity efforts.

  • Primary work location: Geisel Library Building, La Jolla Main Campus. Regular work schedule is Mon-Fri 8:00am - 4:30pm; Must accommodate work schedule changes due to operational demands (e.g. events).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing assessment and user feedback initiatives to understand the user experience.

  • Organizational, project coordination, event planning, and graphic design skills.

  • Proven experience in using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc.) to drive communications.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately proofread one’s own work and that of others; ability to review information and make recommendations based on qualitative or quantitative findings.

  • Effective interpersonal communication skills; including the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy with a diverse clientele.
