The Director of Quality Analytics helps shape the priority focus areas for our Department and Organization through the development of analytics and visualization that will ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. This role also plays a pivotal role in ensuring we meet all our Quality Public Profile data elements for Leapfrog, Vizient, CMS, and US News and World Report. This leader ensures that we provide the necessary analytics prepared to support our physician partners in each of our 17 clinical services and our nursing partners.
Involves analysis of complex business problems using data to provide insight to decision-makers. Identifies and interprets trends and patterns in datasets to locate influences. Develops forecasts, recommendations, and strategic / tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge. Works with business and / or clinical units to understand and prioritize data and information requirements. Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and required / available data elements. Optimizes the performance of enterprise business intelligence tools by defining data to filter and index that adds value to the user. Develops business cases to support enterprise-wide business intelligence solutions.
Supervises professionals and serves as a data scientist providing direction and guidance on business intelligence solutions. Coordinates department workflow, sets priorities and assesses processes. Provides input on Oversees personnel matters and recommends improvements to department practices.
Coordinates daily operations and provides guidance to professionals on performance standards and BI procedures. Trains staff and assigns work.
Partner with key stakeholders across the organization including physician leaders, nursing, and quality and patient safety teammates to identify data needs and collaborate to produce, validate, and publish key metrics to drive the organization towards high reliability.
Serves as a resource on the development of complex analytics, forecasts, data modeling, and reporting to meet desired business outcomes.
Supervises implementation of business intelligence tools and processes. Ensures prioritization of projects and achievement of goals, objectives, and deliverables. Assists with developing / modifying project plans and timelines.
Collaborates with technical teams identifying opportunities to leverage technology to facilitate information delivery and expand business capability.
Monitors data sources, identifies issues, and coordinates solutions to data collection / management challenges.
Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area; plus five (5) years of related experience/training.
Professional level experience working with clinical information systems and developing deep analytics and interpretation with associated data visualization.
Professional level experience and proven success performing clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, rules development, data integration and mining, clinical ontologies, and adoption of technology.
Advanced level capabilities with Tableau, data modeling, MS Excel, MS Access and MSSQL server and related technologies.
Knowledge and advanced level experience working with Transact SQL, Crystal Reports 11, OLAP structures and/or other related technologies.
Advanced knowledge and experience in database management technologies.
Extensive experience and working knowledge of all MS office products.
Strong project management skills. Ability to work in a group setting and lead projects.
Excellent verbal, written communication skills, presentation, and report writing.
- Knowledge, experience, and/or certification working with Epic data and Epic Clarity.
- Advanced level experience working with Transact SQL, and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Crystal Reports 11, OLAP structures, and/or other related technologies.
- Experience in a large, academic healthcare environment.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $78,900 - $179,900 Annually
The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
