Under the direction of the Executive Director for Student Success, the Director of the IDEA Center is responsible for leading and managing the IDEA Engineering Student Center team to deliver student developmental services across its entire student body and overseeing day-to-day operations of the center. The incumbent provides strategic planning and leadership to fulfill the overall goals of the IDEA Engineering Student Center, including the development, diversity, enrichment, inclusion and retention of engineering students. With a high-degree of autonomy, the incumbent is charged with coordinating the existing resources available for engineering students, as well as developing new resources and programs in support of its goals. The annual operational budget of the IDEA Center is ~$1M.
The Director of the IDEA Center is responsible for the overall oversight, administration and management of 20+ comprehensive, engineering-wide programs, some of which are designed to facilitate the academic and social integration of students underrepresented in the field of engineering (first generation, low-income, women, historically underrepresented students, veteran/military-affiliated students, students with disabilities, and older students/students with dependents). Manages a team of professional staff, and supervises office-wide efforts that serve priority student populations, including outreach, service delivery, and student staff. Responsible for the initiation, development, implementation, and evaluation of research-informed resources, support services, and activities for all aspects of engineering academic communities and programs. Maintains liaison with academic and campus departments vital to implementation of program services, including and not limited to, Jacobs School of Engineering academic advising offices, the Teaching and Learning Commons, Financial Aid, Housing, Admissions, Summer Session, and the Resource Centers. Analyzes and manages data and prepares quarterly annual reports. Serves on campus and UC System-wide committees regarding academic progress and retention of students.

Degree in Student Affairs, Student Development, education, psychology, or related field and 3-4 years' experience working with students or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Knowledge of University and campus policies, processes, and procedures. Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to admissions, housing, student services and other related education issues. Knowledge of university education environment, including campus departmental structure, student organizations, student activities and functions.
Leadership and supervisory skills. Proven ability to lead, motivate and manage staff with a strong demonstrated knowledge and experience in all aspects of human resource management including hiring, firing, training, discipline, conflict resolution and recruitment of staff. Demonstrated experience in managerial, administrative, and supervisory practices and principles; strong and creative organization, analytic, and decision-making/problem-solving skills. Demonstrated experience and skill to teach/train staff in all aspects of job duties/responsibilities. Excellent ability to delegate and assign tasks, monitor production and quality of work, set clear and reasonable performance standards, and develop staff to their highest potential.
Skills in project management, social perceptiveness, to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Demonstrated experience in managerial, leadership, administrative, and supervisory practices and principles; strong and creative organization, analytic, and decision-making/problem-solving skills. Ability to develop innovative approaches, techniques and procedures to provide more efficient and responsive services.
Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes, and services, to make improvements. Strong demonstrated experience in developing planning, implementing and evaluating programs, seminars, trainings and workshops with universities and graduate programs for outreach, recruitment and retention in general, and with scholars and underrepresented target groups in particular. Occupational knowledge with an understanding of student development theory, knowledge of student service principles and practices, including ethical stands and knowledge of educational needs of students in need of academic and social support.
Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development.
Excellent organizational skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills to establish goals and prioritize workload of self and others; ability to meet deadlines; ability to work efficiently and effectively on multiple projects with competing deadlines; flexibility in dealing with people and competing demands; ability to manage details of complex projects and events and to independently follow through to successful completion.

Knowledge of risk assessment principles, and the ability to evaluate risks and the likelihood of consequences. In-depth knowledge of undergraduate and graduate student development theories and principles of higher education to explain college student behavior, student development and departure, including psychosocial theories, cognitive theories, and integrative theories.
Demonstrated skills using common desktop / web applications. Advanced proficiency utilizing computers and standard Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong proficiency utilizing a wide variety of software packages for word-processing, spreadsheets, database processing, and presentations.
Demonstrated experience and success in student outreach and recruitment or comparable experience in related fields with knowledge of effective student outreach and recruitment techniques.
Working knowledge of stewardship as it relates to student scholarship donations.
Demonstrated strong experience in preparing, analyzing, and monitoring budgets. Strong ability to use qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis to evaluate reports and improve quality assurance and quality control in unit’s output. Demonstrated ability to develop complex statistical analysis, forecasts, benchmarking, and trend analysis.
Experience preparing reports for grants or contracts that conform to sponsoring agency guidelines. Ability to interpret and apply complex granting agency guidelines and procedures or equivalency sufficient to carry out grant implementation and recording requirements.
Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate programs and activities to meet multiple deadlines with other staff, departments and organizations. Ability to provide work direction to student workers and other staff.
Strong demonstrated, progressive professional experience in a University or college Student Affairs environment. Experience working in an Engineering setting is preferred.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $59,700 - $124,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $28.59 - $59.53
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
