DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Executive Director of Development, Student Success and Parent Programs, the Director of Development, Parent and Family Giving, initiates, develops and implements strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects and donors interested in supporting UC San Diego Family/Parent Giving program. The incumbent is responsible for the initial contact of newly identified prospective donors (alumni and friends) to qualify and to promote interest in providing philanthropic support for UC San Diego's Family/Parent Giving Program, student support areas and other campus initiatives. Special emphasis will be placed on creating and implementing strategies for successful solicitations and building strategic relations with prospects and donors.
Incumbent will cultivate and solicit prospects for gifts of $100,000 and above, with an emphasis on donor development and will work collaboratively with Advancement colleagues to optimize gift support. The incumbent will also play a critical role in building the pipeline of donors for key campus priorities such as student support and access to education. In addition, the incumbent will develop programmatic events and activities for UC San Diego Family/Parent Giving Program opportunities and have oversight of the Parents Council and funding allocations for the program.

QUALIFICATIONS
Expert working knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Proven experience in the full spectrum of development including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, gift solicitation, stewardship, and donor recognition $100,000+.
Demonstrated success at raising funds by developing and implementing strategic solicitation fundraising plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in line with institutional goals in a higher education setting.
Proven success in a highly sophisticated donor-centric fundraising environment as a direct-line fundraiser.
Expert knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and / or throughout higher education / healthcare, generally. Expert knowledge of the location, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Expert knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Expert written and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Expert skills in making persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
Expert organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills. Expert project / program management skills, including skills in setting and meeting program / project goals and objectives within budget and time constraints.
Demonstrated experience in monitoring and forecasting budgetary needs.
Proven experience in conceptualizing, planning and executing effective and cost-efficient donor engagement society events to strategically enhance and advance relations with wide range of donor constituents.
Proven ability to lead and motivate staff in accomplishing established goals and objectives and maintain office activities with respect to these procedures and guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to apply management principles, practices and techniques to ensure the effective administration of donor engagement societies and to ensure that organizational goals are accomplished.
Demonstrated skill in researching and evaluating information, preparing concise, well-organized reports, summaries, correspondence, policy documents, and personalized letters. Demonstrated working knowledge of fundraising databases.
Proven ability to work with a high level of independence, prioritize assignments and departmental needs to meet deadlines. Demonstrated strong managerial, leadership, and communication skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills that demonstrate correct grammar usage, syntax, and format, with the ability to make oral presentations and/or interpreting various related programs to potential donors.
Proven experience with the principles and practices of developing and utilizing volunteer leadership and organizing and maintaining volunteer support organizations.
Demonstrated skill in preparing written proposals to prospective donors.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement persuasive cultivation ideas and techniques for prospects and donors. Proven ability to provide critical analysis, using sound judgment with realistic expectations for prospects and donors.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
Must have access to reliable transportation.
Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $87,000 - $202,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $41.67 - $97.03
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
