DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health Sciences is a top-ranking, $1 billion dollar plus future oriented organization, encompassing 14 departments (12 clinical, 2 basic sciences), 2 professional schools (School of Medicine and Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences), 2 hospitals, and various other programs and units all dedicated towards fulfilling the Health Sciences missions. The Medical Education Division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of health professionals. This includes 536 medical students, 800 residents and fellows, as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD’s School of Medicine (SOM), its' Medical Centers, and affiliates. The Physician Assistant Education (PA) program is slated to enroll it’s inaugural class in January 2024. The program will have an initial cohort of 20 students and a steady state enrollment of 30 students per year thereafter.

The SOM and PA programs jointly utilize the offices of Anatomical Preparation Services, Educational Computing, Events Management, the Simulation Training Center and a central business office. Other SOM offices within the Division include Admissions & Student Affairs (including Health Sciences Financial Aid), Undergraduate Medical Education, Graduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education, and Diversity & Community Partnerships. The School of Medicine Graduate Programs consist of the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, Neurosciences Graduate Program, Medical Scientist Training Program and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program.

The Director of Assessment & Evaluation is responsible for the planning, development, and management of all activities related to grant and alumni activities in the Physician Assistant (PA) Education program. Applies extensive knowledge of PA education programs and policies to manage program administration and operations. Participates in strategizing, planning, and implementation of substantial program improvements of large scope and high degrees of complexity. Oversees a variety of complex financial, technical, and support services involving grant writing, data analysis and review related to all program assessments and continuous improvement processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.

  • Advanced knowledge relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of a health professions education program curriculum and requirements. Maintains a broad range of expertise in health professions education theory and industry best practices.

  • Advanced knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Ability to apply knowledge and skills to develop and implement complex processes and systems improving program quality and efficiency and reducing cost.

  • Excellent communicator; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Ability to handle sensitive personal information with appropriate discretion and judgment.

  • Effective interpersonal skills. Skills to work collaboratively coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Successful experience working with people with a wide range of backgrounds and skills.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Advanced personal organization skills and ability to apply to administration of the entire program including organizing critical files for compliance.

  • In-depth knowledge of educational software and technologies to promote a wide-range of teaching and learning goals.

  • In-depth knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in physician assistant studies from an ARC-PA accredited program.
  • One (1) year of experience in PA Education and Three (3) years of clinical experience.
  • Current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • California physician assistant license (or be eligible to obtain a California PA license at the time of hire).
  • Knowledge and experience with Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant current standards.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,400 - $142,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 - $68.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
