The Digital Learning team designs, develops and oversees a wide variety of online courses and programs for UC San Diego, ranging from open, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) type courses and programs, to fully online advanced academic degrees. We are seeking a full-time Digital Marketing Specialist (DMS) to support and shape UC San Diego's digital marketing strategy for the growing portfolio of online courses and programs. Reporting directly to the Director of Digital Learning, this position will work collaboratively the digital learning team, campus leadership, and marketing and communication partners across campus in planning, executing and overseeing digital marketing initiatives for UC San Diego online offerings.

This position also has a dotted line reporting relationship to University Communications and will work in collaboration with that unit. Responsible for promoting UC San Diego online courses and programs, this position will implement and optimize marketing campaigns across multiple channels including leveraging websites, email/mobile advertising, social media marketing, search engine marketing and optimization. As new online programs are launched, the Digital Marketing Specialist (DMS) will work with the communication leads in sponsoring departments/units on targeted campaigns and recruitment strategies. All marketing campaigns will be monitored and evaluated for effectiveness and results reported.

The Digital Marketing Specialist has the following key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate design, production and distribution of promotional materials for online courses and programs

  • Research, analyze, monitor and evaluate digital marketing efforts

  • Research and analyze new and innovative methods for generating visibility and enrollment in online programs

  • Coordinate with other campus marketing groups on press releases and articles relating to online programs

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

  • Solid knowledge of digital marketing principles, concepts, strategies, and best practices, including social media, email and online advertising campaign management.

  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online and mobile marketing and measurement.

  • Thorough knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.

  • Proven knowledge of content management systems, and/or relevant web applications used for web design and production.

  • Thorough analytical and written communication skills. Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking. Experience using website analytics tools and creating analytics reports.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the campus and/or medical center, including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives, and infrastructure.

  • Strong interpersonal communication and political acumen skills.


  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
