This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite 3 days per week in La Jolla and remote 2 days per week.

DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director in the Chair’s Office, uses skills as an experienced communications professional to produce design and layout for a variety of communications applications. Incumbent will be part of a growing Communications team and will collaborate with leadership to develop and implement targeted digital communication strategies to highlight department's activities. Regularly consults with leadership to identify communication opportunities and understand business needs and priorities. Responsible for developing video content optimized for social media. Well versed in content management systems, search engine optimization (SEO), graphics and illustration software, and applications for publishing and web production. Responsible for layout, design, and production of websites, newsletters, social media graphics and specialized projects.

Advises on issues of functionality, usability, and industry best practices. Creates original graphic content or sources appropriate images for websites, social media and other projects. Assists with the development and implementation of department communication initiatives, following brand guidelines and industry best practices. Produces video communication and marketing pieces which may inform target audiences about faculty or department achievements, market the department's services and capabilities or contribute to the core educational, research and clinical missions. Responsible for all aspects of video creation, including conception, design, planning, videography, sound recording, editing, production and post production. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

  • Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications.

  • Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.

  • Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.

  • Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans.

  • Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.

  • Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.

  • Knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.

  • Strong skills in the techniques of directing, producing and managing productions with a minimum of two (2) years of professional media production experience.

  • Demonstrated skills in the principles and techniques of video and audio editing.

  • Strong proven record of organizational skills pertaining to scheduling, coordination with team, clients, talent and video and photo staff.

  • Demonstrated experience with Search Engine Optimization.
