Under the direction of the Retail Manager (RM), Technology and Merchandise and in accordance with established guidelines, the Department Assistant will provide administrative support for the Technology Department. Make recommendations to procure products for resale. Assist with replenishment procedures, including purchase orders, receiving, merchandising and sales. Assist in managing inventory to ensure adequate stock levels to meet demands. Assess customer needs and ensure that customer expectations are met. Work with campus departments to coordinate merchandise purchasing for special events and programs. Process special order requests with campus departments, campus groups, faculty, staff and students. Assist with web page content and order fulfillment for the department.
Overtime during peak periods required.
Alternative work schedule including Holidays, weekends and evenings required.
Demonstrated understanding of retailing principles including inventory management skills, margin maintenance, and open to buy concepts.
Prior experience and knowledge of buying merchandise for a retail store with ability to make sound and effective buying decisions.
Prior retail store merchandising experience including space allocation, counter layout, fixture arrangement, and effective visual display of merchandise.
High quality customer service skills gained through experience in a highly customer service oriented retail environment.
Proven ability to gather information, analytical skills to analyze data and financial statements, and strong math skills with ability to calculate retail prices and discounts.
Proficiency in PC use and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn and use inventory management applications. Knowledge of technology products.
Demonstrated knowledge of records management practice. Ability to design and implement an effective filing system that promotes quick retrieval, archiving and purging records.
Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize workload effectively and work independently.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people including vendors, faculty, staff and students. Superior interpersonal skills including tack and diplomacy.
