UCSD Department of Radiology is one of the most innovative and productive academic departments in the country, offering challenging career opportunities in the diverse areas of advanced educational programs, cutting-edge research, and state-of-the-art services for clinical and translational studies. The department is committed to offering a dynamic learning environment and growing opportunities to its talented and dedicated employees. The position will be located within the Center for Multimodal Imaging (CMIG, Director Dr. Dale). CMIG serves as the data core for two large-scale longitudinal NIH funded studies with developmental populations. The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study follows ~12,000 children with longitudinal neuroanatomical, functional imaging, and behavioral assessments across 21 sites within the US. The major goals of the study are to provide a publicly available data resource to examine the relationships between environmental influences -- including substance use -- and adolescent brain and cognitive development. The Healthy Brain and Child Development (HBCD) Study is a large-scale longitudinal study of the brain, cognitive, and emotional development that will follow mothers and their children from before birth through the first decade of life. The project will involve over 7,000 families at 25 sites across the United States and aims to better understand which harmful and protective environments exert the greatest impact on child development.
The incumbent will be involved in the continued development and enhancement of the Data Exploration and Analysis Portal (DEAP) for both the ABCD and HBCD Studies. The DEAP is a web-based informatics tool for exploring, downloading, and analyzing the large complex datasets being produced by the ABCD and HBCD Studies. The incumbent will apply skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized software development and enhancement software projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. The incumbent can resolve a wide range of issues, demonstrating competency in selecting tools, methods, and techniques to obtain results. The DEAP software utilizes a LAMP stack that is distributed as a single docker instance with an external session-based authentication system. Incumbents are expected to keep the software up-to-date and are encouraged to develop a CI/CD pipeline for a scalable deployment of DEAP. A job-scheduling system is in development to perform computational demanding statistical analysis tasks and incumbents are expected to develop the system further as well as performing integrations of new analysis pipelines.
