DESCRIPTION

The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego, which reports through UC San Diego Health System, plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments, under the oversight of the executive director, into a cohesive, trans-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Student Health Services (SHS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and SHW Administration.

CAPS delivers campus-based mental health services to over 40,000 registered UCSD undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. CAPS' multicultural, multidisciplinary, and student-centered staff strives to deliver culturally proficient counseling services, outreach programming, consultation, research, and training opportunities.

In collaboration with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, CAPS services support the academic mission of the University aimed at student success and retention and works toward the maintenance of an inclusive and healthy living and learning environment for individuals to flourish as they pursue their academic and career goals. CAPS is accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services and the Post-doctoral Resident Training Program is APPIC affiliated. CAPS is fully committed to self-examination, peer review, and quality improvement through the utilization of data, outcome, and client experience measurements.

UCSD CAPS is seeking a skilled mental health professional, experienced in reducing barriers to student mental health care in a multicultural university environment, to provide counseling and clinical services for a diverse student population. Primary responsibilities for this position will be addressing the mental health needs of students to foster their matriculation and academic success at UCSD. This position requires proven knowledge, training, expertise, and demonstrated sustained engagement in working with under-represented students and young adults, towards their personal development, well-being, and academic success., through culturally proficient individual, group and community interventions.

This licensed professional performs psychological assessments towards diagnosis and the formulation of a treatment plan, the provision of focused psychotherapy and referral of students to appropriate level of care. Also participates in after hours, on-call, and urgent care coverage. The incumbent provides consultation to faculty, staff and administration, engages in mental health promotion and education to a diverse college population, and delivers preventive outreach including psycho-educational programming and evaluation. Incumbent also provides supervision and training of CAPS Post-doctoral Residents and maintains quality assurance and improvement in compliance standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current, valid license in California as a psychologist. Out-of-state licensed psychologists have 180 days to complete licensure requirements in the State of California.

  • Ph.D or Psy.D. from an accredited program in clinical or counseling psychology and completion of an APA accredited internship.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct culturally proficient and focused individual and group counseling and psychotherapy.

  • Strong skills to conduct clinical intake interviews, psycho-diagnostic assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan formulation, recommendations and disposition.

  • Proven ability to develop and implement culturally proficient and effective outreach programs and provide consultation, mental health promotion, and preventative psycho-educational outreach services.

  • Sustained knowledge and experience working with culturally diverse college populations, including ability and expertise with traditionally underserved student groups.

  • Knowledge of clinical supervision, organizational consulting techniques, systems and community psychology models and approaches with demonstrated skills in consultation work with professional and non-professional colleagues.

  • Skills to perform psychological and interest, vocational and aptitudes testing to plan and implement a variety of case dispositions.

  • Working knowledge of electronic medical/mental health records systems (EMR or EHR).

  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing demonstrated by skills to record in a neat, orderly and logical manner, as well as to engage in a helpful, non-judgmental manner orally in person and by phone.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Counseling Center experience.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals.
  • Bilingual to provide therapy in English and one of the following languages preferred: Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Arabic, Farsi, or Hindi languages.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for after-hours emergency coverage.
  • This position is subject to work remote during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $89,730 - $156,245 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.97 - $74.83

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
