Under the direction of the Compensation Supervisor, this position is responsible for compensation and classification functions for UC San Diego Health and Health Sciences. Responsibilities include consultation services to clients, position classification, compensation analysis and creation of job descriptions.This position participates with other Compensation Analysts in providing training to departments on compensation and classification policies and practices. May participate with other Compensation Analysts in development of training, special projects, and compensation programs. Provides front-line point of contact support to the managers and supervisors for all matters related to compensation and classification.

  • Six years of HR and Compensation experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of HR and Compensation experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the compensation functions as well as general knowledge of other areas of human resources.
  • Strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations as well as effective written and verbal communication skills to convey findings and recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Proven experience assisting management with developing solutions to a broad range of classification, compensation and organizational design issues.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and customer service orientation. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management to influence outcomes while acting in a consultant capacity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make presentations to large groups of employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of wage and hour laws, and other laws and regulations relating to compensation, employment, collective bargaining, EEO/AA and FLSA.


  • Compensation Analyst experience in a Medical Center and/or University.
  • Collective Bargaining Agreement experience.
  • Certified Compensation Professional credential.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $53,600 - $111,600 Annually

The University of California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
