DESCRIPTION

The Memory Disorder Program in the Department of Neurosciences brings together faculty and staff who specialize in research and treatment of memory disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders to work together as a multidisciplinary and comprehensive team to provide the best possible care for patients as well as access to clinical trials. Memory disorders and other cognitive disorders are neurological conditions that affect the brain's cognitive function and activities of daily living. The Memory Disorder Program at UCSD is dedicated to providing the best diagnostic, therapeutic, palliative and supportive care to patients with memory disorders and related neurodegenerative diseases. The Memory Disorder Program conducts clinical trials and is collaborating with Investigators both within the UC System and outside the System in search for markers of the disease diagnosis. A main objective is to improve the quality of life for our patients and their families and caregivers, while searching for significant ways to advance knowledge of these disorders through a multidisciplinary clinical and research program.

In conjunction with the executive team this position develop long term strategies designed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of program operations in keeping with the clinical and academic missions of the department. Plan, organize and coordinate efforts within the unit, including supervising coordinators.

Responsibilities also include, but not limited to, managing budgets and contracts, operations management of clinical studies/trials in conjunction with project teams and in accordance with standard operating procedures and good clinical practice/regulations, establishing and maintaining collaborative and professional relationships with health and educational facilities, local clinical and research collaborators (therapists, clinics, primary care providers, professional associates, voluntary and public agencies and community groups).

Applies extensive knowledge of clinical research protocols and processes to design research projects of large scope and high degrees of complexity.

MINIMIM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of clinical research practices and philosophy, and ability to apply knowledge and skills to recommend improvements in methodology. Advanced knowledge of regulatory requirements.

  • Advanced ability to effectively lead one or more projects with competing to meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Adaptable to quickly changing priorities.

  • In depth critical thinking skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution. Creatively addresses complex or new problems.

  • Advanced communication skills; including verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Clear and concise communicator.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, including but not limited to: problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership with other team members. Works well with others to achieve common goals.

  • Proven ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Advanced knowledge of clinical information and documentation application programs. Proven ability utilizing clinical trial management systems.

  • In depth ability to work collaboratively with other cross-functional teams. In depth ability to interface, collaborate and influence / persuade other members of an extended study team.

  • Ability to work with staff to aid with recruitment goals, both in use of current software and serving as a liaison with subjects as necessary
