DESCRIPTION
Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health is looking for a qualified candidate to join the Cancer Registry team as a Cancer Registrar. The Cancer Registry Analyst is responsible for the data quality of the UC San Diego Health Cancer Registry. Uses nationally accepted classification and staging schemes for the coding and abstracting of reportable diseases. Under limited supervision, abstracts and codes medical information from medical records of cancer patients in accordance with guidelines and definitions of the California Cancer Registry (CCR), Surveillance, Epidemiology and End-Results (SEER), American College of Surgeons (ACoS), and UC San Diego Health Cancer Registry.
The Cancer Registry Analyst applies thorough knowledge of clinical registry and medical specialty to consult with clinical staff using the registry, verify accuracy of data, and assure compliance with regulatory agencies. Improves access to the medical registry through analyzing and reporting clinical registry information to clinical professionals, state and federal agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Seven (7) years of related experience in clinical data management OR a Bachelor’s Degree in related area AND three (3) years of related equivalent experience/training
Knowledge of and familiarity with the operational aspects of a cancer registry
Ability to abstract clinical information from patient records and code data accurately into Cancer Registry database and follow up if additional information is needed
Excellent organizational skills in maintaining Cancer Data files
Strong oral and written communication skills for the purposes of conveying information to individuals at various organizational levels and in completing concise documentation
Skill in prioritizing and performing a variety of duties within a system that has constantly changing priorities, assignments and deadlines
Willingness to work as a team player as a member of the cancer registry team
Ability to work independently and exercise appropriate decisions in determining follow up actions and complete assignments in a timely manner
Ability to judge system/procedure malfunction/discrepancies and circumstances to be referred to supervisor for immediate action
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- National Cancer Registrars Association Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification
- Five (5+) or more years of abstracting experience
- Detailed knowledge of the American College of Surgeon standards, California Cancer Registry and SEER standards
- Experience using CNEXT, EPIC, and MS Office software
- Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, pathology, and disease processes
- Detailed knowledge of ICD-0 coding classification scheme
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 - $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 - $44.01
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
