The mission of UC San Diego Continuing Medical Education (CME) is to provide education for physicians and other health care providers to increase competence, improve performance and enable the optimal provision of health care. UC San Diego CME implements and disseminates the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) policies, guidelines and compliance measures and ensures compliance with American Medical Association (AMA) requirements related to CME activities. UC San Diego CME also manages a variety ofeducational activities, such as live conferences, regularly scheduled series, hands-on labs, and home-study activities including online courses, serving the UC San Diego Health System and School of Medicine faculty. UC San Diego CME is a self supporting department, located in the Department of Medical Education in the School of Medicine.
Reporting to the Director of CME, the Business Operations & Fiscal Manager resolves a wide range of complex issues related to business operations and financial transactions/processes/services including cash handling, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel/entertainment, service agreements, vendor contracts, collections, data collection, data entry, data analysis & reporting, transaction review and control, and customer service quality & responsiveness.
The position collaborates with the Director of CME and other leadership, to analyze and address business and operational goals, and policies and procedures, to fulfill and support CME’s educational mission. The position independently selects, collects, analyzes and prepares information for discussion with leadership to assist in formulating strategies and approaches to new initiatives and activities
The position directs operational policies related to fiscal matters, reviews and approves policies and procedures related to financial transactions and develops policies, procedures, and reports to ensure department is compliant with university and department policy. This position oversees general ledger reconciliation for all accounts and processes transfers of expenses, ensures appropriate accounts are charged and resolves problems. The position is the key expert in fiscal year end closing.
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced financial service professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures.
Proven knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
Strong proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff.
Strong administrative and business operations skills.
Effective interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
- Knowledge of financial structure and function of a self-supporting/recharge unit.
