The Building Services Special Events Supervisor will perform the oversight of Sr. Custodians, semi-skilled Lead Building Maintenance Worker, and Building Maintenance Workers to support routine custodial services, general maintenance duties and special events services. The Special Events Supervisor is a critical role in ensuring the success of events. Events will occur campus wide including SIO, Mandel Weiss, Music Department, Recreation Department and the Epstein Family Amphitheater, which is a 2,850-seat outdoor venue capable of supporting a wide variety of performances such as impromptu theater, lectures, large-scale concerts, theatrical dance, classical quartets, movie screenings and much more. Other campus wide events will consist of opening events, student gatherings, receptions, finals week, graduations and staff get-togethers.
This position partners with event coordinators to facilitate exceptional customer service and quality of ancillary resources in meeting clients' needs before, during, and at the close of onsite events. Multiple events may occur at the same time. The Special Events Supervisor coordinates and supervises cleaning and set-up crew activities for their assigned shift and ensures safe work practices are adhered to. The Special Events Supervisor will be required to coordinate resources to fully support the events. During times when events are not programmed, the Special Events Team will serve as "floaters" to support other Building Services custodial teams as needed. The Special Events Supervisor will coordinate with Superintendents and Supervisors to prioritize and schedule employees to provide custodial support. The Special Events Supervisor will receive predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Instruct direct reports to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies. Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility. May perform custodial duties part of the time.

Working knowledge in custodial and housekeeping services. Experience performing and managing semi-skilled building maintenance and custodial tasks in an environment similar to a commercial, university or municipality atmosphere. Work leadership skills to provide guidance to other personnel
Demonstrated knowledge of event planning and organization of special events including familiarity with general accepted practices of the industry.
Demonstrated knowledge of proper and safe use of custodial equipment, cleaning chemicals, tools, etc.
Proven experience in the proper and safe use of power and hand tools, and equipment common to the building maintenance trades.
Experience safeguarding keys issued for assigned areas.
Ability to read, write, and perform basic math calculations. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Basic computer application skills. Experience using standard computer systems and applications such as word processing, electronic mail, time and attendance systems, and internet browsers. Extensive knowledge in the creation and management of spreadsheetsusing Excel and Google Docs.
Critical thinking skills. Working knowledge of and ability for decision making and reasoning. Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, perform operations analysis, and quality control analysis.
Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills. Proven ability to set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities, and take into account deadlines, competing requirements and complexity. Flexibility and multi-tasking skills. Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.
Verbal and written communication skills in the English language and active listening skills. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and simple diagrams.
Effective interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of people. Ability to communicate effectively with people of many diverse backgrounds, including students, staff, faculty, and guests.
DOJ, FBI, and DMV background checks and clearances required prior to employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
Must be willing and able to work in morgues/gross anatomy/pathological laboratories where human/animal bodies or parts thereof may be exposed to view of the worker.
