DESCRIPTION
Temporary Employment Services (TES) places employees in departments that have temporary staffing needs. TES offers a variety of assignments, and an excellent benefits package, as well as opportunities for skill enhancement and exposure to career opportunities at UC San Diego. Hours, salary, and locations vary by assignment. TES has current openings for Building Maintenance Workers (BMW) in various areas around campus.
Assignment Details
- Pay is $20.05/hour including medical benefits, vacation, sick, and holiday pay.
- The schedule is Sunday - Thurs 10:30P - 7:00A
- This position will also receive the $0.67 evening shift differential.
Temporary Assignment Anticipated to Last up to 6 months
Under general supervision, perform a variety of general maintenance, preventive maintenance and building maintenance functions and tasks for the facility. Conducts four (4) Life Support System (LLS) rounds nightly, monitor seawater, facility, and exhibits systems. Respond to emergencies and provide basic after-hours security functions for the Aquarium, including responding to alarms and contacting appropriate staff and emergency services. Communicate issues as needed. Perform floor care, restroom cleaning, and trash disposal tasks, as well as building repair and repair of custodial maintenance support equipment. Repair chairs, tables, cabinets, drawers, and other office and building items. Clean glass, stairs, exhibit ledges, walkways, and children’s step-ups. Vacuum, sweep, polish, or wash floors as needed. Perform minor carpentry tasks. Prep for painting and touch-up painting. Set up and put away tables, chairs, trash cans, etc. for events. Clean up after special events.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in maintenance work in a Zoo, Aquarium, or equivalent public facility.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude; knowledge of building maintenance
Ability to work independently and complete tasks without close supervision.
Demonstrated plumbing and water system maintenance, repair, and installation skills.
Carpentry skills; ability to use hand and power tools.
Proven general knowledge of wiring and installation of electrical components.
Proven knowledge of custodial and cleaning procedures and custodial equipment and supplies.
Demonstrated knowledge of all safety procedures to be followed when working in a maintenance/custodial setting.
Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
Proven ability to work in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
California driver's license; ability to drive department vehicles.
Demonstrated knowledge of safe handling and disposal techniques for refrigerant chemicals and parts.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Regular work schedule is Sun-The 10 pm - 7 am.
- The job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
- Must be able to work a prearranged day, swing, or graveyard shift, including some weekends and holidays.
- Must be physically able to perform essential functions of the position.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) training will be required. Must meet CANRA compliance requirement per California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act ("CANRA," Penal Code sections 11164-11174.4).
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $41,864 - $53,140 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $20.05 - $25.45
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
