Under supervision of the clinic nurse manager, incumbent serves as the authorization coordinator for all authorizations for the Department of Cardiology. Responsible for ensuring proper documentation of all funding, eligibility, and authorization issues in all pertinent systems. Duties include but not limited to Insurance verification, registrations, and clearing hold bills.

The authorization coordinator will have primary duties and responsibilities to ensure smooth flow of authorizations, oversee data entry for the authorization unit, and identify and resolve systemic issues with authorizations as they arise. This position is responsible for facilitating the processing of authorizations associated with orders placed in EPIC. Serves patients, physicians, staff, and ambulatory care service managers with matters related to registration and authorization issues/questions. Ensures all required information is received and in EPIC.


  • Three (3) years of directly related experience in a large complex healthcare or clinic setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of hospital registration and insurance authorizations.

  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.

  • Able to determine priorities between multiple projects with a high level of attention to detail while working with conflicting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated skill working between multiple systems during calls.

  • Must be resourceful, or have demonstrated resourcefulness.

  • Possess excellent customer service skills.


  • EPIC and Cadence experience.
  • Insurance authorizations and scheduling experience.
  • Experience working in a surgical authorization coordination unit or academic medical center.
  • Clinical or front desk management experience.
  • Call Center experience.
  • ICD-9 and 10, CPT, and HCPCS Codes knowledge.


  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be able to cover between various department locations as needed.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $51,532 - $64,039 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.68 - $30.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
