Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Admissions, the Assistant Director of Transfer Application Review (AD-TAR) is responsible for planning, design, and implementation of all activities related to the review of transfer applications (to include CETAD), validation of student records and awarding academic credit for coursework from two and four year institutions and exams. They are the resident expert on eligibility and evaluation guidelines for transfer students seeking admission to UC San Diego. This includes implementing training and certification along with quality control measures. They independently oversee the day-to-day operations, monitor progress and make recommendations on program improvements to ensure established timelines and department goals are met.
The Assistant Director trains, supervises, and determines the goals and expectations of subordinates responsible for executing tasks associated with reviewing undergraduate applications for admission, including the evaluation of academic records, and awarding of transfer credit for new students. This includes recruiting, hiring, and training a team of external application reviewers, as needed based, on the annual workload volume. The incumbent is responsible for implementing policies that directly affect subordinate staff with varying levels of expertise.
A member of the leadership team, the Assistant Director participates in the development and implementation of complex policies and procedures to strengthen infrastructure, take a digital first approach, and ensure proper alignment of resources to achieve campus enrollment goals. In this role, the incumbent maintains knowledge of industry best practices and works collaboratively with department leadership to maximize resources and uphold the security and privacy of student records.
They represent the Office of Admissions in meetings and committees at local, system wide, regional, and state level on appropriate topics. Serve as a member of various standing and ad hoc committees such as the Senior Admissions Evaluators Workgroup, Apply UC, etc. The incumbent is also responsible for counseling and advising the public including, but not limited to, prospective applicants, parents, faculty, and administration on admission-related issues, and participating in various recruitment and yield activities, and evaluating their effectiveness.

Bachelor's degree in related area and 5 years of experience and/or equivalent combination of relevant experience/training.
Advanced knowledge of project management including program design, implementation, and evaluation. Knowledge of human resources management policies with ability to monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance. Ability to manage budgets, provide accurate accounting of expenditures, analyze and interpret reports, and formulate recommendations. Ability to analyze data, including return on investment, to assess the efficacy of evaluation, outreach and recruitment programs.
Advanced knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of staff on campus, and off-campus counselors, administrators, multicultural and non-traditional populations.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of UC, and the ability to interpret and communicate policies and procedures to prospective students and the public. Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to the Registrar, financial aid, student affairs, academic departments and Colleges. Proven ability to provide expert advice on transfer admissions to other admissions staff, students, parents, high school and college counselors and the general public.
Advanced and comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, including curricula, admissions requirements, and financial aid programs, at colleges / universities and specifically at UC. Knowledge of global issues as they pertain to transfer students pursuing higher education in the United States.
Advanced knowledge of tertiary level foreign credentials, secondary school records, study abroad programs and policies, and the knowledge of major educational systems of the world. Demonstrated experience researching, analyzing and interpreting documents from foreign educational systems, including transcripts, grading systems and curricula. Proven ability to recognize inconsistencies in academic records, specifically in the areas of falsification, duplication of course content and repetition.
Advanced ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations, and other institutions.
Advanced ability to develop recruitment programs, and design effective materials. Ability to organize, plan, and implement information, outreach, and recruitment programs for transfer students, counselors, and parents.
Advanced knowledge of admissions requirements for campus / school / college, including mitigating circumstances / bases for exceptions.
Advanced skills to develop the school's / college's strategic recruitment plans, designing outreach and recruitment programs and materials that will attract and enroll top candidates to the school / college, including students from under-represented groups.
Experience conducting independent and unsupervised individual evaluations and assessment, and providing admission counseling for pre-admission applicants who have been admitted, deferred or currently registered, high school and community college counselors, college advisors and directors of advising, military recruiters, and others., and providing admission counseling for pre-admission applicants who have been admitted, deferred or currently registered, high school and community college counselors, college advisors and directors of advising, military recruiters, and others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise information, and to effectively communicate complex, technical information in professional settings with co-workers, prospective students, their families and the general public.
Competency in the use of a personal computer which includes word processing, electronic mail and a large data base system.
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters involving sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters. Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking skills to analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
Demonstrated ability to supervise the work of others and set priorities that accurately reflect department goals and objectives. Ability to routinely monitor production and quality of work produced by staff and set performance standards. Provide objective feedback, counseling, and implementing corrective action as needed. Able to mediate disputes or otherwise help to resolve conflicts and provide effective leadership/coaching/mentoring.
Duties may require direct contact with children (defined as individuals under the age of 18). Completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form is required.
Job offer is contingent upon a satisfactory clearance based on background check results.
Position includes substantial domestic and international travel.
Must have reliable transportation for domestic travel as needed.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid passport and/or REAL ID for international travel as needed.
Available to work evenings/weekends during peak periods.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $59,700 - $124,300 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $28.59 - $59.53
