This is a 100% Contract position for 1 year. This appointment may be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the department.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, which includes a combination of onsite and remote work.

DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Development - Neuro will support the team that leads fundraising for brain-related areas within UC San Diego Health Sciences, including Neurosciences, Neurological Surgery, Anesthesiology, Aging and Psychiatry. This position has two foci: 1) providing project support to team leadership on priority areas which may include stewardship of transformational gift donors, advisory board or focus group coordination, and other projects as needed, and 2) to qualify and steward donors in annual to emerging gift levels to help in building a more robust pipeline for the team and its areas of responsibility.
Under the leadership of the Senior Executive Director of Development, the Assistant Director of Development is responsible for pipeline building gift strategies from qualification through stewardship. The Assistant Director will also support critical projects for the team, including planning, scheduling, coordinating and implementing project-specific or development of strategic projects/programs. Organizational skills are of critical importance. This position will be expected to manage a number of varying priorities and collaborate with team members across Health Sciences Advancement and the broader Office of Advancement.

The ideal candidate will be a consummate professional and will thrive in a fast-paced, metrics/results-driven fundraising environment. The candidate will have a strong work ethic and demonstrate good judgment in assessing, determining, and executing methods/techniques for obtaining solutions, particularly in navigating sensitivities in grateful patient fundraising. A track record of building and growing relationships in support of a nonprofit organization, academic institution and/or healthcare system is important, and the candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty and community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 2-3 years of progressive development experience in a complex organization.
Thorough working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques. Proven exposure to the full spectrum of development including gift policies, cultivation, donor recognition, support group management and administration.
Proven knowledge of the dynamics of fundraising and the concepts of development. Strong knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Demonstrated ability in the technique of donor prospect research with the ability to extract the pertinent/critical information from various documents.
Demonstrated ability to develop strategies and plans to identify and cultivate prospects and steward donors. Proven experience interacting successfully with donors, prospective donors, faculty and staff and community members.
Proven experience developing new programs to broaden donor base and enhance institutional outreach.
Proven success in organizing and implementing special events.
Strong skills in maintaining confidentiality. Strong sense of ethical conduct, and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters, including those relating to sensitive donor relations issues.
Demonstrated expertise to utilize online databases and other software to create, retrieve, and compile up-to-the- minute documents and historical information for reports.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification, avoidance, resolution, and project management skills.
Proven advanced analytical skills to evaluate information, procedures or situations, to define a problem or objective, identify relevant concerns, recognize alternatives, and formulate logical and objective conclusions. Demonstrated experience in gathering, researching, and analyzing information, and recommending or implementing appropriate solutions.
Strong organizational skills. Proven ability to prioritize assignments and departmental needs, and to meet deadlines. Ability to make sound independent judgments and complete tasks with minimum direction.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports, summaries, correspondence, briefings, personalized letters, and other materials, and to dialog clearly and effectively in conversation and at meetings.
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one or in group settings, taking into account differences in social, cultural, professional, and educational backgrounds.
Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy of quality service and group process, with proven aptitude for working as part of a highly collaborative team.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $63,400 - $142,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $30.36 - $68.39
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
