DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Radiology offers challenging career opportunities cutting-edge research and state-of-the-art services for clinical and translational studies. The Center for Multimodal Imaging and Genetics (CMIG) is a multi-disciplinary group of scientists, programmers, and support staff that plays a leading role in several national and multinational initiatives involving collection and analysis of imaging, genetic, and behavioral data from healthy controls and patient populations. CMIG hosts the DataAnalysis and Informatics, Resource Center (DAIRC) of theAdolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, and part of HBCD Data Coordinating Center (HDCC) of HEALthy Brain and Child Development Study (HBCD). Both are ongoing, NIH-funded studies. ABCD is to follow ~12,000 children with longitudinal neuroanatomical, functional imaging and behavioral assessments across 21 sites within the US. The major goals of the study are to provide a publicly available data resource to examine the relationships between environmental influences including substance use and adolescent brain and cognitive development. HBCD contains 25 research sites, plan to enroll 7500 participating families, the study aims atunderstanding how the brain develops and is affected by exposure to substances and other environmental, social, and biological factors duringpregnancy and after birth.

Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for design and implement applications for both ABCD and HBCD studies. The incumbent will also join a team to develop MRI image transfer programs, data analysis programs to improve the data collection and data analysis quality. This position requires the incumbent to acquire and analyze data using specialized research program independently. This position requires strong quantitative,analytical, and computing skills on desktop and server-based processing systems. The incumbent utilizes a unique combination of advanced skills and knowledge across multiple specialties and research workflows. Applies professional programming concepts for small to medium-sized projects or portions of larger projects. Resolves a variety of programming design and implementation issues. Works on programming assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area.

  • Knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated excellence skills in program languages SQL, Python, Django, PHP, JQuery; Strong knowledge about RDBMS,NOSQL. Fluent in using Jupiter Notebook.

  • Intermediate skills associated with the design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts.

  • Knowledge of other IT related areas.

  • Demonstrated software repository skills.

  • Experience with common programming tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical staff. Demonstrated advanced interpersonal skills to successfully interact, including facultymembers from various University departments, staff from diverse cultures and backgrounds, and clients from outside theUniversity.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Skilled in proof reading and editing. Knowledge of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Demonstrated good judgment and decision-making; problem identification and resolution; identifying measures of systemperformance and the actions to improve performance through application configuration and programming techniques.

  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of work in a quantitative field (such as training or graduation from college with major work in computer science, data science, information system management, engineering, physical science, neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated Knowledge and experience working on Linux system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) or more years of related Python and SQL programming experience

  • Demonstrated experience using REDCap Database
