The Division of Medical Education within the UCSD School of Medicine is comprised of the following major units: Admissions & Student Affairs; Undergraduate Medical Education; Graduate Medical Education; and Continuing Medical Education & Faculty Development. These units are supported by core services Business Affairs, Educational Technology, and Evaluation & Assessment. The division supports the education, training and co-curricular activities of 500 medical students, 800 residents and fellows, as well as the faculty, physician and healthcare providers at UCSD’s School of Medicine and Medical Centers.
Serve as a Curriculum Coordinator in the pre-clinical curricular segment of the Integrated Scientific Curriculum (ISC) in the School of Medicine (SOM). Provide programmatic support to Core Courses in the Integrated Scientific Curriculum (ISC) in the School of Medicine (SOM), including preparation of course material, coordination of course committee meetings, and processing of course expenses. Complete special projects for the course directors as needed. Additional coordination and support of year-round curricular courses such as Ultrasound and Anatomy, as well as the fourth-year Principals to Practice Course. Coordinates the annual Interprofessional Education activity.
In consultation with department management, uses professional concepts in drafting department schedule for courses, seminars, and special events, taking into consideration faculty leaves, preferences, and faculty course load, classroom availability, and enrollment figures. Schedule may be reviewed to ensure it meets the needsof students for degree progression. Independently obtains classrooms for courses taking into account the requirements and restrictions of the Campus Scheduling Office.
Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.
Proficient knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Thorough knowledge of department, organization, and University policies, procedures, and directives.
Knowledge of department and school/college general and major course requirements. An in-depth knowledge of an organ-based pre-clinical curriculum within a School of Medicine, preferably at UCSD.
Effective interpersonal skills including flexibility, tact and diplomacy in interactions with students, faculty, co-workers, campus administrators and the public. Ability to counsel students on a variety of problems with tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity.
Ability in problem identification, reasoning, analysis to identify trends. Analytical and problem-solving skills with expertise in developing strategies for resolving situations and recommending action for desired results. Ability to find solutions to conflicting situations.
Strong communication skills to communicate clearly, effectively and tactfully to all levels of clients, academic, administrative and staff personnel within the university.
Excellent record keeping skills, including ability to design and maintain extensive database information. Skill in developing, implementing, and maintaining efficient record keeping and filing systems for retrieval by self and others.
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member within the department and outside our programs (VA, Children’s Hospital, and UCSD Hospital).
