DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Recruitment Team Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for human resources administration for career staff, limited appointment and student employees. Responsibilities primarily deal with the coordination of the full recruitment process, however, other areas include employee relations, providing guidance and assistance to managers, supervisors, staff and job applicants on employment practices and policies. This position manages records by establishing standards and creating systems for security and organization. Consult with managers, supervisors and leads on organizational issues. Provides training to career staff. Completes special projects as requested by Supervisor. Maintains strict confidentiality.

Uses professional employment and staffing techniques and concepts for employment, sourcing programs, and policies for the organization. Employment and search efforts are of moderate scope and complexity. Works on staffing / employment for skilled operational and technical and professional level positions. Normally receives general direction on staffing and employment assignments, with more detailed direction provided on new or more specialized and complex assignments. Exercises judgment within defined staffing and employment procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Works with internal and external recruitment contacts.

Housing Dining Hospitality (HDH) is a self-funded, large and complex campus department consisting of 7 divisions, with over 700 career employees, 1000 to 1200 student employees and an annual operating budget greater than $200 million. HDH provides housing for approximately 18,000 undergraduates, grad students, faculty, staff and their families in over 400 buildings covering over 8 million sq. ft. HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan which added 10,000 new beds in the next 10 years and will almost double our square footage by 2032.

Currently, HDH houses 38% of UCSD’s enrolled students with a goal of housing 65% by 2032. HDH provides maintenance and repair, contract meals/meal plan management, as well as retail food service, conference services and catering services to residents, students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; knowledge of functional area and understands how work may impact other areas.

  • Working knowledge of the recruitment, screening, interviewing and referral processes.

  • Knowledge of HR processes and forms and knows organizational and departmental principles and procedures.

  • Knowledge of common software used within employment and other areas of HR, and how they work together.

  • Basic knowledge of employment law.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills as well as active listening and critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated abilities associated with problem identification; reasoning; ability to work with business units in the development of ideas to solve staffing issues.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations.

  • Computer knowledge and skill to use e-mail, word processing, data base management and spreadsheet software applications and web browsers, preferably Word, Windows, Excel, and Access.

  • Experience managing a broad scope of complex personnel and related functions including but not limited to recruitment, selection, benefits administration, and diversity.

  • Ability to interpret and apply UCSD policy and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects that require the independently planning, organizing and prioritizing daily operations and projects in order to meet deadlines.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Variable schedule to include occasional overtime and weekends to meet heavy workload periods.

  • Valid CA Driver License and clean driving record required to operate University vehicles.

  • Background check and DMV check required.

  • A hybrid (remote and onsite) work schedule is currently available for this position.
