DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, incumbent will serve as a tester for a major NIH funded multisite twin study of risk and preventive factors for cognitive and brain aging. Duties involve testing subjects in a full day cognitive/neuropsychological, and medical test battery (all training will be provided by the PI and staff), scoring the cognitive test battery, and assisting the project manager and Investigators as needed with research project tasks such as coordination of subject scheduling, travel, screening, purchasing and maintaining test materials, data entry, assisting with supplemental studies, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Theoretical knowledge or degree in Psychology or related field.

  • Must have a valid CA driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to achieve proficiency in cognitive/neuropsychological test administration and scoring.

  • Ability to perform biomedical assessments: blood pressure, audiometry, pupillometry, centrifuge blood.

  • Excellent oral communication skills for conducting cognitive tests in person with participants in English and for conducting MRI safety screenings over the telephone. Ability to read clearly and articulate out loud.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work with other staff members and faculty, and to recruit, test, and motivate research subjects.

  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality in relation to research subjects (e.g., maintain HIPAA privacy and rights of human research subjects).

  • Proficiency with PC and software such as Word, Excel, electronic communication.

  • Proven ability to keep accurate records, file, update computerized administrative files, conduct computerized library searches.

  • Ability or experience in administering computer-based and paper-and-pencil standard neuropsychological assessments that measure basic intellectual aptitude, working memory, episodic memory, vocabulary, verbal fluency, executive functions, visual-spatial ability, reaction time, pupillometry, etc. in English.

  • Ability to administer basic biomedical assessments, such as blood pressure, height/weight/girth, walk test, odor identification, hearing/visual ability, and grip strength.

  • Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain project testing materials (computerized and paper test materials, phlebotomy materials, blood pressure equipment, audiometry, organize test packets, etc.).

  • Ability to help maintain laboratory compliance with University and Federal environmental health and safety standards.

  • Proven ability to administer a full day testing battery that includes cognitive/neuropsychological tests, and biomedical assessments, medical history interviews, and questionnaires to twins who are on-site, an average of two days a week but frequency of testing may vary seasonally.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Must be available (with advance planning) to occasionally test on weekends or to travel off-site to conduct testing for participants who cannot travel to UCSD. Off-site travel generally involves flying to a location (2 nights). Test days (approximately twice a week) begin at 7:30 am.
  • Must be able to spend the entire day of testing with research participant. Testing may occur in the lab at UCSD or at a location near the participant’s home (e.g., hotel conference room).
