DESCRIPTION

The Breast Oncology Social Worker is responsible for working directly with the Comprehensive Breast Health Center team, including medical/surgical oncologists, oncology nurse case managers and oncology infusion nurses. Duties include providing emotional, practical and financial resources for patients undergoing Breast Cancer treatment and patients in survivorship. Duties include providing adjustment to illness counseling, advanced care planning, grief counseling to patients and crisis management to spouses and/or family members. Breast Oncology Social Worker is responsible for coordinating Aid in Dying/End of Life Option Act duties with patients/families and maintaining accurate statistics for the state of California. Social Worker will participate in writing policies/protocols that impact UC San Diego Health outpatient disease team, participate in tumor board and LCSW staff meetings. Social Worker will facilitate support groups, provide ongoing education to staff on role of LCSW in outpatient clinic and collaborate with inpatient Social Work team as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of social work.

  • Three (3) years of post MSW experience.

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) issued by the State of California.

  • Experience working in medical field, preferably Oncology.

  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic setting.

  • Knowledge of local and national Cancer resources.

  • Ability to stay informed about new and changing resources that impact disease team.

  • Ability to create and maintain relationships with Oncology resource providers.

  • Ability to assess and counsel patients in person, on phone and via Telehealth.

  • Ability to learn and use UCSD and community services effectively.

  • Excellent interpersonal to work with ethnically, culturally and socioeconomic diverse populations.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with co-workers.

  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively in writing and in patient medical records.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Experience with Epic.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Must be willing to work at all UCSD locations.
