The Research Ethics Program (REP) serves as a resource for UC San Diego to identify and address ethical challenges intrinsic to academic scholarship, foster learning about research ethics, and meet federal funding requirements for education in research ethics. The Program seeks to sustain UC San Diego's international leadership in fostering integrity in research. The REP also leads the San Diego Research Ethics Consortium (SDREC). The SDREC is a multi-institution core resource to support the ethical conduct of science in stem cell and other research programs.

The incumbent will be responsible for developing, implementing, organizing and supporting new and ongoing ethics training programs, trainee development, supervision of student assistants, and coordinating the efforts of academic personnel. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration and management of the Program Office, and will participate in and coordinate regular meetings with investigators and program staff. The position will also be responsible for developing and evaluating outreach efforts and assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of training programs. Responsibilities will include a shared role with the Director in short- and long-range strategic planning.

  • Graduation from college and two (2) years of related experience in ethics, marketing, program management or equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.

  • Experience with marketing and outreach for events and programs.

  • Experience managing program operations, including planning, setting timetables and priorities, and keeping track of participants.

  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate orderly files and records. Experience monitoring and managing program budgets.

  • Experience with Wordpress, CMS, MS Publisher, Adobe InDesign or Illustrator, and/or other similar tools.

  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to use sound judgment to make decisions and solve problems with minimal supervision.

  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels. Ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and patiently in person, on the telephone and in writing to a diverse group of people in the professional setting.

  • Ability to compose, edit, and finalize written materials ranging from reports to web content to brochures.

  • Experience with calendaring and scheduling meetings.

  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Must be willing to work occasional evenings or weekends for special events
