DESCRIPTION

The new Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science is dedicated to health and social equity and has over 80 primary salaried faculty, 25 secondary faculty, 200+ personnel, 200 postgraduate students, and 550 undergraduate majors. The School includes activities in the Public Health disciplines of Behavioral Medicine, Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, Global Health, Health Policy, Health Equity, Public Mental Health, and Environmental and Climate Health. The School administers two PhD programs (Public Health and Biostatistics), a Master of Public Health professional degree program, an MS in Biostatistics, the only Health Sciences undergraduate program (BSPH), an MAS in Leadership of Healthcare Organizations run in conjunction with UCSD Extension, and a Preventive Medicine residency program.

The School has strong collaborative research programs facilitated by Research Centers of Excellence focused on Wireless and Population Health Systems, Health Promotion and Equity, Women's Health, and Tobacco Control, and has extensive collaborations with the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy, Jacobs School of Engineering, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, Moores Cancer Center, the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus. Partnerships with the community and health agencies are fundamental to the School. The School houses five recharge cores providing services to UCSD and external customers, and the School’s faculty and academics hold ~$125M total awarded grants and contracts.

Under the supervisor of the study Principal Investigator (PI), the assistant clinical research coordinator will oversee all aspects of the research study focused on nutrition and physical activity for Latino families. The assistant will be responsible for development of study protocols, working with the Institutional Review Board (IRB), conducting participant assessments/measurements, leading community engagement and outreach activities, and management of data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong theoretical knowledge and/or Bachelor's Degree in psychology, public health, biology, or related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written).

  • Must have a valid CA driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • Experience in administering psychosocial and/or health behavior questionnaires.

  • Experience with behavioral counseling or lifestyle interventions.

  • Experience working with the Latino community.

  • Experience performing research duties in a behavioral or clinical research environment. Strong knowledge of experimental protocols, data gathering, protocol design and evaluation.

  • Experience using statistical software applications such as SPSS, SAS, or R. Knowledge of database, word processing and spreadsheet applications such as REDCap, Velos, Access, Excel and MS Word.

  • Strong knowledge of investigational protocols (data management, query resolution, protocol design and protocol implementation).

  • Demonstrated experience with research protocol in order to screen patients for eligibility, initiate treatment plan, collect specimens, and orient participating physicians.

  • Proven ability to find creative and innovative solutions to adjusting needs of the center. Ability to be resourceful and to understand the overall nature of work/responsibilities to establish useful resources and University contacts.

  • Experience with research participant recruitment.

  • Proven ability to problem solve and resolve conflict.

  • Effective interpersonal, as well as written and verbal communication skills (using grammatically correct written English and accurate typing) to interact with a diverse population. Excellent phone etiquette skills.

  • Ability to discern items that can be handled independently and those which require attention of supervisor, including ability to quickly determine subject matter of material and necessary action to be taken in a timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse groups, including professional and non-professional staff and clients.

  • Experience in public speaking: preparing and delivering presentations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with nutrition and/or physical activity measurement.
  • Experience coordinating study startup activities.
  • Knowledge of clinical measurements such as anthropometrics or biomarkers such as hemoglobin A1c.
  • Possess a Clinical Research Coordinator Certificate, or Master's Degree.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Able and willing to work variable hours when necessary to accomplish research activities, some early evening hours and some weekend hours as needed for work.
