UC San Diego’s Department of Music builds upon the University’s vision to "align our efforts to be a student-centered, research-focused, service-oriented public university" as the country’s foremost graduate program in contemporary and experimental music. Graduate degree programs focus in Composition, Computer Music, Integrative Studies, and Performance. The undergraduate program at UC San Diego offers a bachelor of arts in music, music humanities, and ICAM (Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts). The curriculum emphasizes the development of musical listening and performance skills as applied to both contemporary and traditional music.
Serve as primary support and resource to the CAO and Fiscal/HR Manager in the Department of Music, an academic department with instructional and public-oriented concert/performance programs. Responsible for all aspects of payroll, disbursements, and purchasing that includes a large volume of honoraria, entertainment international travel, purchasing of instruments and other technical or specialized supplies and equipment. Using the general ledgers and other appropriate documentation, directly assist the CAO and Fiscal Manager in researching and preparing computerized analytical materials and reports in a timely manner. Prepare monthly financial reports using ORACLE Financials as required. Review appropriateness of expenditures, availability of funds, and applicable funding restrictions. Assist in performing fiscal closing activities. Serve as payroll timekeeper and back up to Fiscal Manager. Provide general administrative support to the department.
Must be willing to work occasional overtime to meet established deadlines and/or manage workload during peak periods.
- Hybrid Work Agreement - 3 Days in office/2 days remote.
Experience reconciling ledgers and researching expenditures.
Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles.
Outstanding organizational ability to assess workload, determine priorities and execute tasks according to established deadlines.
Skill in following detailed verbal and written instructions.
Ability to gather, compile, and verify information/data for department statistics, reports, etc. with accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively with a variety of people by phone, electronically and in person, exhibiting excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate proper fiscal procedures to faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to use computers to setup Excel spreadsheets with formulas, enter/retrieve date on database systems and prepare letters and forms with word processing.
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations (add, subtract, multiply, and divide) and to recognize errors.
Ability to use conventional filing systems and accurately organize large volumes of material for easy access.
Ability to handle busy phone systems and to take accurate messages.
Demonstrated fast accurate typing skills required to handle various typing formats.
Ability to use various office machines, including copiers, FAX, and 10-key adding machines.
Ability to work in a high-volume environment with frequent interruptions.
