DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego Human Resources Department is the campus central office encompassing numerous core campus organizations that include Disability Counseling and Consulting, Equal Opportunity Services, Compensation and Classification, Benefits, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition and Data Analytics, Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, Labor Relations, Retirement Resource Center, Policy Development and Work Life, Staff Education and Development, and Temporary Employment Services.

Under of the direction of DCC Leadership, this position is responsible for the day to day operations including but not limited to process mapping and process improvement, the electronic case management system, coordinating blink/web content updates, and disability income counseling. Uses skills and experience as a seasoned, experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of employee benefits practices and University policies and procedures. Demonstrates good judgment in review of confidential information to identify methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and developing recommendations relative to employee benefits programs where analysis of situations and data requires a review of a variety of factors. Responsible for the provision of recommendations for reasonable accommodations and management of medical disability related matters including but not limited to vocational counseling, job analysis, medical separation, disability counseling, and job reassignment for staff and faculty employees who have a physical or mental disability impacting the ability to stay at work / return to work or perform the essential job functions. Interaction with all levels of the Campus and Systemwide Administration, as well as communicating with employees and supervisors / managers and providing training / education about state and federal laws and UC Policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Amendments, Fair Employment & Housing Act, and Pregnancy Disability.

  • Skilled in facilitating the interactive process to identify reasonable workplace accommodations. Strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and sound judgement.

  • Strong analytical skills to review and interpret law, policy, medical documentation, and effectiveness of reasonable accommodations.

  • Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of various counseling theories and techniques. Experience providing frequent counseling and guidance to individuals regarding disability management, applicable law/policy, and the interactive process.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to remain objective, and effectively manage competing priorities for timely resolution.

  • Ability to design, organize and present training to all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, originality, and judgment in applying established principles to new and unusual problems.

  • Experience conducting alternate job search, assisting with resume development, and coaching for the interview process.

Preferred

  • Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) or Certified Professional in Disability Management.
