Position Overview:

Incumbent serves Senior Accountant in Internal Controls and Accounting ---a division of Business and Financial Services (BFS). As a member of Campus Accounting Team, this position interprets Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standard Board (GASB) and pronouncement and regulations, UC Office of the President (UCOP) and campus policies and implement necessary processes to ensure compliance. Uses full understanding of organizational policies and procedures to resolve complex assignments where analysis of data requires a review of a variety of factors and multiple sources.

For UC San Diego, the primary functions include serving as accounting expert and control point with UC Office of the President as well as campus departments for the full cycle of accounting, which include journal entry preparation/review/posting, financial statement review and analysis, ledger review and process improvements.

  • Fiscal closing is a critical business period during which vacation requests may not be approved.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Significant demonstrated knowledge and work experience in the application of the generally accepted theories, principles and practice of accounting.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and GASB pronouncements, as well as standards related to internal controls.

  • Proven ability to analyze new and/or existing complex accounting pronouncements issued by GASB, as well as standard accounting procedures.

  • Strong ability to analyze and summarize complex accounting data, perform complex reconciliations, prepare financial reports, and resolve complex accounting problems independently.

  • Thorough knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems and best practices of internal control.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook etc.)

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

PREFERRED

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Finance and four (4) years of professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • General knowledge and/or experience with Oracle Financial Cloud and ServiceNow platforms

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

  • This position is expected to be fully remote initially and subject to change based on leadership determination in alignment with University guidance on flexible work arrangement policies and protocol.
