As an organizational unit under Academic Affairs at UC San Diego, the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) is considered a leader in data-intensive computing and cyberinfrastructure, providing resources, services, and expertise to the national research community, including industry and academia. Cyberinfrastructure refers to an accessible, integrated network of computer-based resources and expertise, focused on accelerating scientific inquiry and discovery. SDSC supports hundreds of multidisciplinary programs spanning a wide variety of domains, from earth sciences and biology to astrophysics, bioinformatics, and health IT. SDSC launched Comet, a petascale supercomputer and will soon install Expanse. SDSC is a partner in XSEDE (eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment), the most advanced collection of integrated digital resources and services in the world.
The Workflows for Data Science (WorDS) Center of Excellence at SDSC offers expertise and services to support data-driven applications, data analysis projects, data scientists and software engineers in their computational practices involving process management.
The WIFIRE CI (cyber infrastructure) will support an integrated system for wildfire analysis, with specific regard to changing urban dynamics and climate. The system will integrate networked observations such as heterogeneous satellite data and real-time remote sensor data, with computational techniques in signal processing, visualization, modeling, and data assimilation to provide a scalable method to monitor such phenomena as weather patterns that can help predict a wildfire's rate of spread.
Under direct supervision, the Research Data Analyst 1 will acquire skills and knowledge of professional concepts in research data analysis. The incumbent will work on small projects or segments of projects with limited scope and complexity.
The Research Data Analyst 1 will synthesize basic data science analyses into reports that inform proposal writing and workshop materials, help to identify discrete action items and key points based on analyses of continuous streams of speech and assist in the designing and maintaining of systems for storing and retrieving this information.
Additionally, the incumbent will assist with liaising between WIFIRE Lab industry partners & internal team members and the community at large (comprised of academicians, fire scientists, firefighters, and others) as well as participate in identifying key domains under which the WIFIRE Lab and other NSF Convergence Accelerator participants can collaborate for future projects.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties. BSc degree in a field that includes data analysis as a part of the curriculum or equivalent experience and training.
Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties. Basic experience with web design and content management platforms including drupal and prior wikipedia contributions.
Basic consultation and communication skills. Ability to clearly communicate written objectives and goals to diverse stakeholders.
Ability to provide basic analysis and expertise to capture notes and translate discussions in environmental sciences into trackable action items.
Ability to assist the project directors in the organization of stakeholder meetings which requires usage of multiple platforms for virtual and in-person attendance.
