Position Overview:

Incumbent serves as Staff Accountant within Internal Controls & Accounting----a division of Business and Financial Services (BFS). As a member of the member of the Campus Accounting Team, this position is primarily responsible for Intercampus transactions, serving as campus-wide control point for complex financial transactions with all other UC campuses including UC Office of the President.

This position uses professional accounting concepts to complete accounting assignments, such as journal entries, that are of moderate scope. Analysis, Reconciliation, and Resolution of accounts (specifically clearing and transfer accounts) and data requires a review of a variety of factors and multiple sources. Primarily responsible for remitting estimated monthly State Board of Equalization Tax as well as Quarterly Filings. Additional functions include accounting oversight and main point of consultation with campus departments for the full cycle of accounting, which include journal entry preparation/review/posting, financial statement review and analysis, ledger review and process improvements.

Exercises judgment within defined accounting procedures and practices, such as GAAP, GASB and College and University Accounting standards, to determine appropriate actions. Works closely with internal and external resources on a regular basis. Applies policies and procedures to resolve a variety of accounting issues.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Proven ability to analyze and summarize complex accounting data, perform complex reconciliations, prepare financial statements and resolve complex accounting problems.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing.

  • Working knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, theory and practice; balance sheet accounts and principle of reconciliation.

  • Proven knowledge of automated accounting systems, including the ability to analyze functionality and recommend enhancements

  • Proficient in MS Office suite applications; specifically Excel, Word, Access or related software.

  • Knowledge of analytical procedures used in accounting projects of moderate scope.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills


  • Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting or Finance and two (2) years of experience in Accounting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • General knowledge and/or experience with Oracle Financial Cloud and ServiceNow platforms


  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
