DESCRIPTION

The Graduate Division is the central resource for all matters related to graduate education at UC San Diego. Our team is there at every step in a graduate student’s career, helping students navigate their path from admission to graduation and beyond. Working behind-the-scenes and in collaboration with faculty, staff and students, the Graduate Division guides today’s scholars on their upward trajectory to becoming tomorrow’s leaders.

Graduate Division Strategic Objectives:

1) Graduate Excellence: Grow the graduate programs and develop new curricula, while recruiting outstanding, diverse students, enhancing our stature, and serving the needs of students and society.

2) Graduate Student Experience: Deliver an outstanding graduate student experience by providing enhanced student support services, mentorship, career development, internships, and social events by promoting interdisciplinary scholarship and community building.

3) Financial Sustainability and Stewardship: Foster fellowships, training grants, philanthropy, and develop revenue generating educational programs that enhance our stature and promote our campus mission. Continue to develop agile and streamlined administrative processes that provide outstanding support to academic departments and programs.

4) Monitor Progress: Collect data to assess progress towards the above goals, and provide rapid feedback to individual departments and programs regarding admissions, mentoring and more.

5) Communicate our Impact: Engage in a variety of outreach events to enhance opportunities and visibility for our graduate students and programs.

As a member of the Graduate Admissions Team and under the general supervision of the Director of Graduate Admissions, the Graduate Admissions Credential Evaluator evaluates and verifies the academic documents of applicants nominated for admission to ensure compliance with minimum university standards for admission. Advises and trains faculty, staff, and applicants on admissions policies, procedures, and processes. Provides ongoing training in admissions technology to ensure timely processing of nominations. Working individually and collaboratively with others, analyzes and makes recommendations for changes to the online graduate application and the application management system. Responds to telephone, in-person, and email inquiries about admissions, the application process, and status.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of and ability to analyze, accurately interpret, and apply policies and procedures to evaluate transcripts, degrees, test scores, visa-related documentation, and other international and domestic graduate application-related materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to research, collect data, verify accuracy, and compile and format results to meet various publication and reporting standards such as those for admissions and visa- or grant-related information.

  • Effective computing skills with experience in the creation and use of spreadsheets; the use of email, online environments, web-based applications, and various software applications, such as Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Access), paradox, and SQL-DSE.

  • Demonstrated skill in independently organizing and prioritizing high volume of work; meeting deadlines during peak periods and working in an environment with frequent interruptions.

  • An understanding of computer systems with the ability to troubleshoot individual operational systems, as well as the interfaces of those systems, and data management problems.

  • Ability to foresee and report regularly and promptly on individual and unit workload needs and recognize and recommend alternative actions with flexibility to adapt to and implement changes as needed.

  • Demonstrated skill in performing all work at a high level of accuracy and completeness promptly and effectively with strict attention to detail and in proofreading own work and work of others.

  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and evaluative skills using technical and procedural systems involving complex information, databases, and data management systems.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of UCSD policies and procedures, including but not limited to financial, travel, and contract and grant procedures; proficiency in the use of various online systems and tools.
