The UCSD Internal Medicine Group is the medical home for its adult patients. We provide comprehensive management of chronic diseases, acute problems and health maintenance by utilizing state-of-the-art technology in a patient centered approach led by your personal physician, and the entire Internal Medicine Group team. In addition to providing most of the primary care services that patients need, the Internal Medicine Group coordinates care within the larger UCSD healthcare team in an effort to assure seamless and coordinated care of the most complicated medical problems.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will assess and provide nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. The major emphasis at this level is ongoing direct patient care delivery. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs participation in program planning and development of patient education information.

Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program, FNP preferred.
California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.
Current Nurse Practitioner (NP) Specialty Certification from one of the following Nursing Boards: AANP, ANCC, NCC, PNCB, AACN.
BLS/CPR or BART certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Minimum three (3) years recent NP experience in Primary Care, Internal Medicine, and/or Family Medicine. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years gained through school or work experience.
Thorough knowledge of case management systems for the purpose of follow-up on abnormal findings or events.
Excellent skill in communicating effectively with clinical staff.
Strong skill in organizing/prioritizing and follow-through to meet all research related deadlines and all clinically dictated tasks.
Demonstrated ability to learn new procedures and perform them at a high level of competence.
- Graduate from a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program.
- Knowledge of clinical and ancillary services within UC San Diego Health.
- Fluency in Spanish as a first or second language to English.
- Experience working with multi-ethnic, multicultural aging populations.
- Knowledge of and experience with medical management of postmenopausal women who are using hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
- Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Selected candidate may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by the Advanced Practice Council.
