Performs technical work in support of and under the direction of the prosecutor during autopsies and other post-mortem examinations. Assistance may include opening and closing bodies, and collecting various samples during autopsies; taking x-rays and photographs of human remains; transporting bodies; storage of samples; clean-up and maintenance of the laboratory, supplies and evidence. Assist in the gross room when needed to: accession; cut frozen sections and grossing of surgical specimen.
Under supervision, performs technical tasks and procedures to include preventative maintenance as appropriate in each section assigned. Perform all duties in a manner consistent with current laboratory safety standards. Assist in preparing/ maintaining compliance as established by regulating agencies such as CAP, TJC, OSHA and other federal and state agencies. Additional duties will include inventory and ordering of supplies, clerical, telephone, and communication with laboratory customers.
Laboratory training in a laboratory approved or accredited by ABHES, CAHEA, or other agencies approved by HHS, OR, at least three (3) months of documented laboratory training for high complexity testing.
Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses , OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
