UC San Diego Health Learning & Organization Effectiveness (LOE) is a multi-function division of the Human Resources Department that consists of Learning, Leadership Development, Organization Development, and Learning Technologies. LOE is responsible for providing complex organization development consulting services and programs, design and delivery of instructor-led and e-learning, instructor support for client instructors, development and coordination of major professional development programs; implementation and/or support of system-wide development programs and processes, administration of the UC Learning Center, oversight of professional development policies and use of educational benefits.
This position has a 30/50/20 split between Organization Development, Training Development & Instruction (L&D) and Leadership Development & Coaching respectively.
This position requires the application of learning expertise in the design, development, delivery, management and evaluation of University of California systemwide and UC San Diego Health courses and programs. Serves as a primary educator for LOE courses and programs with an emphasis in leadership & management development, supervision, work leadership, interpersonal effectiveness, diversity education, workplace performance management and workplace instruction.
Independently uses and applies wide-ranging experience and proficiency in OD interventions, organization analysis and strategic planning on projects that involve multiple organizations and stakeholders. Regularly works on highly complex issues of strategic engagements where analysis of circumstances and information requires an in-depth evaluation of factors. Analyze data from surveys and implement data-driven solutions to better support leader and team engagement. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Uses OD professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex organizational, group, interpersonal and intrapersonal issues.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assesses complex situations, identifies desired improvements, works with clients to address issues and implement solutions in alignment with strategic goals.
- Exercises judgment in selecting and developing methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining appropriate results and resolution of organizational effectiveness issues
- Using advanced research techniques and blended learning approaches, design and develop new courses and programs and update existing courses, developing professional-quality supporting course materials, and integrating electronic and classroom resources.
- Provide short-term leadership coaching sessions based on an assessment of needs. Use UC San Diego Health approved assessments as applicable.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Advanced knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized, strategic organization interventions. Highly skilled in conceptualizing and developing practical frameworks that describe complex ideas in understandable, usable ways.
Advanced skills delivering training, workplace learning, performance management, adult learning, individual assessment, leadership & management development, supervisory training, career development, and communication theories, concepts, practices and techniques.
Advanced knowledge of functional area and advanced understanding of how work impacts other areas in human resources and the organization.
Thorough knowledge of future forces, trends and directions in the field of Human Resource Development. Advanced professional ability to conduct research using print, electronic, and in-person sources.
Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead engagements from inception to conclusion. Strong skills for effective organizational diagnosis leading to development of organization and business strategies.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, project planning, and implementation skills. Strong ability to effectively manage the planning, resourcing, and monitoring of program, project or process delivery and outcomes.
Highly skilled in facilitation and relationship building. Skilled in group facilitation includes indicating understanding of the principles of group dynamics and the needs and sensitivities of a diverse work force.
Applies strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills. Advanced interpersonal communication skills and ability to speak effectively in public to diverse audiences.
Ability to coach, facilitate, and influence people at all levels. Advanced skill coaching managers and leaders to integrate effective management principles and practices into their leadership strategies to improve organizational effectiveness.
Advanced skills using computing systems in a networked environment. Applied knowledge of presentation software, computer graphics, electronic mail, online calendars, HTML, web editors, web browsers, Windows, spreadsheets, databases, word processors, and color printers.
