The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Newborn Medicine, is seeking a pediatric hospitalist to provide patient care on the Newborn Service at UC San Diego Health Jacobs Medical Center. Clinicians should be board certified pediatricians with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in general pediatrics.
Jacobs Medical Center is a 364-bed general medical and surgical facility on the UC San Diego Health campus in La Jolla. UC San Diego Health is the only academic health system in the San Diego region, providing leading-edge care in patient care, biomedical research, education, and community service at sites in La Jolla and Hillcrest. U.S. News and World Report’s annual "America’s Best Hospitals" report has repeatedly ranked UC San Diego Health as the #1 health system in San Diego.
The care of patients on the Newborn Service at Jacobs Medical Center is provided by a team of UC San Diego faculty pediatricians, pediatric hospitalists, pediatric nurse practitioners and trainees. At this same location there is also a 52-bed level III Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which is staffed by UC San Diego faculty neonatologists, pediatric hospitalists and neonatal nurse practitioners. Patients on the Newborn Service that require higher level of care are transferred to the NICU.
We are looking for clinicians to provide direct patient care in the Newborn Service as well as supervise the care provided by nurse practitioners, residents and medical students. Additional expectations include trainee education, collaboration with healthcare team, contributing to system improvements and participation in Newborn Medicine correspondence and monthly provider meeting.
- Board certified with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in general pediatrics.
- Prior experience caring for newborns during birth hospitalization, stabilizing sick infants and neonatal resuscitation.
Must be able to obtain UCSD medical staff privileges.
Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
Will be required to work on at least 3 dates designated as UCSD Holidays.
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
