DESCRIPTION

The Manager of Oncology Data Analytics and Information Services (MODAIS) position is part of Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, ranked by US News and World Report as the #17 Cancer Center in the country and one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. This designation is reserved for cancer centers with the highest achievements in cancer research, clinical care, education, and community contributions. Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, Oncology and Radiation Therapy Services, the MODAIS will be responsible for oncology data analytics and IS governance and management. The Manager will provide data driven project management and analytics for mid to large-scale, complex and strategic projects while coordinating and communicating among executive sponsors, steering committees, project team, collaborating organization and other internal and external stakeholders. This is a key position on the cancer centers’ operations management team.

The MODAIS will create an environment of functional accountability within the project team. The Manager will understand the project’s benefits, requirements, deliverables and timelines. The Manager will analyze, conduct, and present oral and written reports defining project status and research information, while monitoring project performance to maintain the quality of services, deliverables, and content. The Manager will track performance, service levels and other metrics required to ensure project goals and objectives are met, and build trusting, collaborative relationships and partnerships with team members and collaborators to achieve key objectives.

All of these duties require the use of tact, strict confidentiality in the handling of sensitive information, independent judgment, discretion, and flexibility. The successful candidate will also be adept at matrix management with the expectation of leading diverse work groups and teams. The incumbent will be a representative of UC San Diego Health System and should exemplify UC San Diego Health, Moores Cancer Center's core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Involves analytical studies on a variety of policies, projects, programs and issues in support of a function, research initiative, program and / or organizational unit, or in research of new or changing systems and programs.
  • Data analysis, projections, and recommendations related to operational, financial, and strategic data to inform decision-making.
  • Assists in policy and program planning, project management, development, administration, management and implementation.
  • Interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to department administrators and other stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration or related areas and/or equivalent experience/training. Experience in a hospital, ambulatory, or oncology setting (preferred).

  • Minimum of three (3) or more years of relevant experience in data management, data integration, analysis, and project management within healthcare and/or academic and multi-hospital/clinical environments. Five (5) years preferred.

  • Experience using healthcare management systems (i.e. EPIC). Deep understanding data management, database systems, and us of statistical tools and business reporting, including Excel SQL to identify trends, opportunities, and data issues.

  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposal / analyses. Strong policy analysis and data management techniques.

  • Excellent skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required; and willingness to learn new software and management tools as needed.

  • Experience with EPIC and/or other electronic health record systems for report creation and execution.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage the relationships and interfaces with multiple departments by acting as a matrix manager with senior leadership and physician champions.

  • Possess interpersonal human-relation skills to employ tact, diplomacy and flexibility. Ability to successfully establish and maintain positive and goal-oriented working relationships with a diverse population.

  • Outstanding ability and skill to speak before large and small audiences with poise and confidence. Ability to convene meetings and lead discussions. Ability to effectively present to diverse groups, management levels, government agencies and stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, manage numerous diverse projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and apply creativity (originality) in problem solving.

  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude during interaction with a wide variety of personalities in demanding situations. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, faculty and students, and to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Highly motivated, numerate, logical thinker, with a passion for strategic thinking and applying quantitative rigor to unstructured problems in the context of business decision making.

  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
