Under the supervision of PI, position will assist in mitochondrial research projects aimed at identifying mitochondrial dyfunction and neuroprotection in glaucoma. Assist in the maintenance of the animal colony, including husbandry and breeding. Performs tissue culture experiments, PCR, genotyping, immunoblotting, and immunofluorescence microscopy. Also responsible for preparing buffers, solutions, and routine lab chemicals, and is responsible for laboratory administrative duties that include maintaining a research database and ordering/receiving supplies.
Theoretical knowledge such as typically acquired by a Bachelors Degree in a life science.
Extensive experiences in animal care and handling such as small rodent surgery and breeding
General laboratory experience. Knowledge of lab laboratory procedures and equipment, such as sterile techniques.
Demonstrated computer skills including word processing, data entry, photoshop and email capabilities.
Ability and willingness to work with small rodents. Skilled at proper handling of small animals.
Familiarity with standard immunological techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry and immunofluoresence.
Knowledge of small rodent breeding colony procedures.
Knowledge of cell culture and ability to work using sterile technique.
Clear and effective communication skills, including telephone, in person and writing.
Good interpersonal skills with ability to interact with diverse groups of staff, research subjects, and investigators.
Knowledge of DNA extraction, genotyping, PCR and Western blot.
- Awareness of laboratory animal protocols.
