Under supervision of the RN, the Mental Health Worker assists in direct patient care. This includes activities of daily living, feeding, bathing, ambulating, and taking vital signs. Participates in milieu groups and demonstrates knowledge of therapeutic and crisis intervention skills. Ability to work with potentially aggressive patients. EPIC flow sheet charting electronically. Performs other related tasks as required.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
One (1) year of related experience in a direct inpatient acute care setting or a psychiatric/rehab nursing facility.
Medical terminology training and/or certificate.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, staff, and other disciplines in a constructive, professional manner.
Ability to work with a diverse adult population.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Previous experience working in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
- Experience with Epic and related UCSD systems.
- Familiar with UCSD policies and procedures.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Must be willing to work in the Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (NBMU) and Senior Behavioral Health (SBH) at Hillcrest.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
- Per diem shift requirement is an average of 1 shift per week per 4-week schedule. Must be available 1 weekend shift per 4-week schedule and a minimum of 1 holiday. This is subject to change based on individual department needs.
Job offer is contingent on successful engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).
