The Moores Cancer Center is one of just 51 in the United States to hold a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. As such, it ranks among the top centers in the nation conducting basic and clinical cancer research, providing advanced patient care and serving the community through outreach and education programs.

The Cancer Center's mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the care of patients with cancer. The Center supports one of the broadest ranges of cancer activities in the nation - from fundamental and translational cancer research in molecular genetics and advanced molecular therapeutics, and from population studies of cancer incidence to community education about cancer prevention and risk reduction.

Under general supervision, working in an immunology research laboratory, the Research Associate will independently conduct experiments involving flow cytometric analysis of human and mouse leukemia cells. Primary responsibilities are preparing samples for staining with specific monoclonal antibodies for flow cytometry, and collecting, analyzing, organizing, and summarizing the results using Flowjo, Cellquest and Excel software. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the development, screening, characterization and validation of monoclonal antibodies generated against cancer cell targets. • Strong knowledge and experience in flow cytometry and operation of a FACSCalibur instrument. Design, perform, and interpret results from experiments with human and mouse cells stained with specific fluorochrome-conjugated monoclonal antibodies.

  • Experience with reading and reviewing protocols and new techniques, and using that information to design experiments with limited supervision.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting data.

  • Excellent organizational skills to order and maintain lab equipment and order supplies. Attention to detail required in file and record keeping duties.

Skill at negotiating with various personalities and developing internal and external network of contacts. Excellent phone etiquette skills.

  • Experience and familiarity with the operation and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment, such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, balances, pH meters, autoclaves and electrophoresis equipment.
