DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the IT Director, serves as Network Administrator for the California Smokers' Helpline. Designs, develops, manages, and enhances network configuration, and uses best practices to secure the LAN and cloud environments against possible threats. Responsible for installing and administrating Windows, Ubuntu and CentOS Linux, and SQL Server on both dedicated and virtual environments. Responsible for installing, supporting and troubleshooting desktop, laptop and tablet computers in a network environment with up to 120-160 users. Provides hands-on support for client-server applications, desktop applications, web-based applications and all network devices. Acts as Tier 1 helpdesk support, coordinates IT department trouble/fix reports, and manages Helpdesk workload. Assists the software development team application programmers in troubleshooting, debugging and modifying applications, as needed. Works with users and provides end-user support and training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft system policy. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Exchange mail server.

  • Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.

  • Demonstrated experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting PC hardware and software.

  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.

  • Skills associated with adapting equipment and technology to serve user needs. Comprehensive understanding of how system management actions affect other systems, system users and dependent/related functions.

  • Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.

  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.

  • Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

  • General knowledge of other areas of IT. Thorough understanding of and experience with systems-related issues and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.

  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.

  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience with remote access (VPN) configuration and management.

  • Experience with network security, firewall and anti-virus software.
