UC San Diego Health Physician Group leadership is looking for an RN Supervisory candidate to help provide day-to-day oversight to our new Digestive Disease Service line(s) (including Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), Colon & Rectal Surgery, and GI). Our Idea candidate has several years of RN Supervisory experience over General Surgery/ Internal Medicine / & GI ambulatory clinics, experience developing new workflows & care teams, and has tangible experience driving operational efficiencies through the use of lean methodologies. This leader will report directly to physician group leadership and have clinical dyads with our Department of Surgery and Medicine Division Chiefs.

The Registered Nurse Supervisor is a front line management position responsible for the immediate functioning of the clinic. In addition to performing normal clinical duties, the Registered Nurse-Supervisor directs and supervises overall operation of the clinic and is responsible for supervising and delivering quality patient care on designated shift. The Registered Nurse-Supervisor is responsible for promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care by assessing, monitoring, and educating the nursing staff. In addition the Registered Nurse-Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the unit effectively utilizes resources, provides excellent customer service, and complies with regulatory and internal UCSD requirements.

The Registered Nurse Supervisor plans, schedules and organizes work for the unit, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities. Position supervises staff, screens candidates, and assists with the interviewing and hiring of new employees. The Registered Nurse-Supervisor ensures staff competence by conducting performance appraisals, counseling staff and taking disciplinary action as required in consultation with nursing management and Human Resources/Labor Relations. This position is also front line in clinic providing direct patient care, nurse visits, IV medication etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSN required. Will consider candidates who are currently enrolled in a BSN or higher nursing degree program.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • A minimum of five (5+) or more years of recent RN experience.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Outpatient Clinic experience.

  • Possess and maintain expert knowledge of disease processes, the continuum of care, and services/resources available to the patient and family.

  • A minimum one (1) year of resource nurse, charge nurse or supervisory experience.

  • Strong ability to communicate proficiently orally and in writing including a facility with public speaking.

  • Excellent interpersonal and planning skills to interact with physicians and staff at various skill and licensure level.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and with patients and their families. Compassionate caregiver with a holistic perspective of patient and family-centered care.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Managing Surgical Specialties, Internal Medicine, Weight Management clinics
  • Experience with ordering Medication and Supplies.
  • Experience with Budget and financial reports.
  • Clinical Nurse Leader Certification.
  • Certification in a Clinical Specialty.
  • Phlebotomy and IV experience.
  • EPIC experience.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
